We invite you to explore the information assembled in these pages about Closter’s history and the historic places that exemplify that history! Both are components of our shared heritage, whether we arrived in Closter three hundred years ago, or just yesterday.

Learn what we have done and what we hope to do to protect and preserve these defining elements of our community. Included on this website is the online version of our Design Guidelines, which contain information for owners of historic structures for undertaking repairs, maintenance or other work on their properties. Printed copies of this booklet are kept at Borough Hall, in the Land Use office.

Many of our historic photos come to us through the efforts of the Closter Historical Society. The Society, in turn, relies on numerous old publications. If you have historical information, old maps, or photographs you would like to share with the community, please contact us. It is only though sharing of our local history that we can keep it alive. Contributions and feedback are are welcomed, we would love to hear from you! Click on the "Contact Us" button on the left to get in touch with us through email.
